In a 1952 publication it mentioned "Her imposing stature of five feet seven inches has caused her on occasion to adopt a slumping stance", although Eve herself once said "Bette [Davis] is about Five Feet Two and I am Five Feet Eight, so we couldn't hear each other well enough to stay in the same key, but the audience loved us anyway."
As we got to know them, I began to realize what a complex Alan [Ladd] had about his height. He was extremely handsome and very sweet, but visiting there was a little like playing musical chairs. Since Brooks is six feet two and I am five feet eight and a half, Alan, five feet six, never approached the car when we arrived, but stood above at the door to the house. When we walked up, he quickly offered us chairs, and from then on, if we rose, he sat, and vice versa.
